Apple is preparing a major update for its AirPods wireless headphones – a live translation feature. The innovation is expected to become available with the release of iOS 19 later this year.
How will it work?
The new feature will allow AirPods owners to hear real-time translation of conversations. For example, if your interlocutor is speaking Spanish, the headphones will immediately translate their words into English (or another language of your choice) directly into your ears. In response, when you speak in your own language, your iPhone will speak the translation back to the other person through the built-in speakers.
Why is it important?
Live Translation can be a real breakthrough for travelers, businesspeople, and anyone who frequently communicates with people from different countries. It will help you overcome language barriers without the need to use third-party apps or translators on your smartphone.
Competition in the market
Similar features have long been available in Google Pixel Buds, which support translation via Google Translate. However, integrating translation directly into Apple’s ecosystem can make this feature even more convenient for iPhone and iPad users.
When to expect the update?
Apple has not yet announced the exact release date, but it is expected that the iOS 19 update will be presented at the WWDC 2025 conference, which traditionally takes place in June.
Live translation of conversations in AirPods is another step towards communication without borders. Will this innovation become the new standard in headphones of the future? We will find out soon!
